How Invisalign works
Invisalign treatment starts with the end of the treatment visible. A 3-D computerized model is made of the patient’s smile. It shows the patient’s teeth prior to and after Invisalign treatment. Margeson will make any needed modifications and the information is then sent to the Invisalign lab where the aligners are designed.
Utilizing Invisalign’s ClinCheck software, Margeson is able to show patients every movement in the treatment process, aligner by alignmenter, throughout the process of treatment.
Invisalign aligners made of clear medical-grade plastic are customized to fit the individual needs of each patient. Typically, patients receive between four and six sets at their appointment for an orthodontic exam. Each aligner lasts for approximately two weeks.
The aligners work in tandem to gradually move the teeth in a an optimal alignment, Margeson said. Treatment typically lasts between nine and 18 months.
Oral Hygiene Benefits
Invisalign treatment is simple because aligners can be removed as you eat, drink, and floss.
“Tartar and plaque may build around brackets if patients don’t take care of their oral hygiene, and food frequently is caught in brackets,” Margeson said. Flossing can take longer because floss threaders are required to move between teeth and wires to ensure proper flossing.
Removeable aligners will eliminate any possible obstructions. The patients wear the aligners and remove them for eating and drinking and are able to clean and floss as normal.
