Through my experience as a makeup artist at AVEDA in NYC I was exposed to the harmful chemicals that go in many cosmetic products used every day to look better. These chemicals can stay in your body long after the makeup has gone and can cause all sorts of issues. One of the most controversial of these chemicals is parabens.
What are the parabens?
The simple answer is that chemicals called parabens are used as preservatives in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics as well as in the processing of food and beverages. There are four main kinds: methyl-ethyl, propyl and butyl parabens. You can search for these on the label of your favorite products and replace them with something more efficient. The more complicated solution is that parabens are believed by many to be endocrine disruptors and reproductive poisons.
Why should I be concerned?
Because endocrine disruptors and reproductive toxicants are chemicals that disrupt hormones and interfere with normal growth and development of reproductive abilities and intelligence. A typical American woman utilizes 12 personal care items per day, while the average teenager consumes 17! If all of these products contain parabens even in small amounts, that is lots of toxic chemicals entering your body every day. Imagine the effect this could have over the course of using makeup. You may think you’re secure because cosmetics are put on your body. Make no mistake – if you are putting anything onto your body (i.e. Makeup, lipstick, glitter or the like), they are going to be in your body.
If parabens are so dangerous why do I have them in my makeup?
Many people believe that a government agency, like the FDA regulates what goes into your makeup. That if you can buy an item at your local department store or pharmacy it is safe. This isn’t always the case. Cosmetics aren’t controlled by any government regulations. Companies aren’t legally required by the U.S. government to perform health studies or safety testing of cosmetics. Companies can make use of any chemical they choose to use in your makeup. They don’t even need to disclose what chemicals they’re using.
What can I do for my family’s safety?
Pay attention to the label The ingredients – http://www.dict.cc/englisch-deutsch/ingredients.html do not have to be listed on the label of cosmetics. If it’s paraben-free, it will clearly state it, this is an accomplishment which cosmetic manufacturers are proud of, and they will flaunt it! Also, remember that claims like “organic”, “natural” or “dermatologist tested” are not regulated for use in cosmetics, and do not imply that products are safe. Do your own research and choose not to buy or use cosmetics or 脫毛 – https://www.evrbeauty.com/ personal care products that contain these untested chemicals.
I’m a makeup designer for dancers, cheerleaders, and actors. I am particularly concerned about the safety and 脫毛 – https://trademarksexchange.com/author/gracielaarn/ health of children and teens who are fond of and use my cosmetics. Teens who are prepubescent and pubescent are especially vulnerable to the dangers from exposure to these harmful chemicals. The goal of JAM was always to develop an alternative to cosmetics that is healthier for cheerleaders, dancers, actors and performers, or anyone who wants a long lasting makeup without all the “long lasting chemical”. That’s why I am so happy to announce that as of the beginning of the year JAM cosmetics are free of parabens!
